You were there under my father’s bed as he breathed his last,

You were there when the tsunami came, and survived it too,

You were there for every birthday, stuffing yourself with cake,

You were there sulking, refusing to be photographed when I saw you last.

A dozen or so years was all we had with you

And today we had to part

But you Lassie our dear friend

Will always have a place in our hearts.

  1. Thank you for your loving remembrance and sharing of your dear Lassie….. I feel I know Lassie as well through your generous thoughts on Lassie and the wonderful relationship you and your family had with this special being. Wishing you the best, Carol

    • Thanks Mel and Carol. She was 12 yrs old and one by one her organs packed up and the medications didn’t help. She was amazing — rode the tsunami wave sitting on top of a floating cushion. She was found later among the rubble At Siriniwasa by Kanishka and he left her with a friend at Hikkaduwa till the family relocated. She refused to eat there and would kick sand into her food and turn the plate upside down — till she came home to us… Many more tales to remember her fondly. …

      • What an amazing story of your dear girl! I think you could write a heart-touching best seller of her life and your family’s life with her. Would love to hear more of the tales of this wonderful relationship. May all animals know the love and caring that dear Lassie had with you.
