Thank you for a this glimps into Sri Lankan obstetric care. I truely enjoy your blog. It's so well written and well informed - and it provides a great counterpoint to the usual images of Sri Lanka portrayed in media.

Chulie,

This is such a beautiful entry that elicits an empathetic and emotional response. You should consider posting this on the End Poverty in South Asia blog as well.

Mutual feelings Chulie, I was reading with pride the UNICEF report on Reproductive Health report for 2008 and found the report on Sri Lanka a 'success story'. Made me an extremely proud mother from Sri Lanka.

I have my own experience for no:3 when, although severely complicated with the risk of losing one or both our lives, my gyno saved both of us with his expertise and discipline. This too in a semi-government hospital. And yes, I always wanted to write about the health nurses. An encouraging sight to all mothers all over Sri Lanka.

Way to go, my Sri Lanka!

What a positive story - much needed in these times. I so admire Sri Lanka's training of midwives, the encouragement of breast feeding, etc. An example to all nations. Excellent reporting and photography as usual.
